Sustainability is, in essence, adapting to the challenges that arise in the environment to ensure its own permanence without putting at risk the resources of the future and the permanence of others.

In this sense and according to a project that has been developed for more than 10 years, BRUMA is committed to the environment and manages its relationship with it through an annual program.

We reforested 150 trees within BRUMA.

Reforestation has focused on olive trees, which have a high carbon sequestration potential, estimated at approximately 30 kg of CO2 per year. Therefore, with the planting of 100 olive trees, BRUMA increased its CO2 sequestration potential by 3 tons per year.

Adopting local beehives for pollination 

Beekeeping within the site seeks to reinforce the vision of conservation of one of the most important species for the survival of ecosystems.

We plant ground covers, apply fertilizers and composts in productive areas to provide nutrients.

BRUMA generates between 10,000 kg to 20,000 kg of waste per month, of which 2,000 to 4,000 kg will be organic waste with a greenhouse gas generation potential ranging from 3,800.00 to 7,839.40 kg of CO2 equivalent (CO2-e) per month.

We developed an irrigation program to save 15% of water annually. 

At BRUMA we are promoting nighttime irrigation, with the best time of day to start watering being after sunset. The irrigation cycle should end early enough before sunrise to allow excess water to penetrate the landscape for the leaves to dry in the normal time period, due to much lower nighttime temperatures and wind speed.

We installed water reservoirs for wildlife.

In addition to the leak monitoring and repair program, a water reservoir was installed to prevent the loss of this resource and to generate environmental services for local wildlife. 

Planting of 30 hectares of cover crop on previously exposed soil.

Different seasonal plant seeds were applied to the soil to generate a natural cover on the bare soil, thus promoting humidity, fixing nutrients and reducing the temperature of the productive soil.
